Medicare, MediDoor

The door, it seems, used to be a gate,
As much to keep you out,
as to let you in.

And many times today,
it's only half open.

Not a perfect metaphor,
but a pregnant one:

Not fully open,
Not fully shut,
Not adequate,
Actually inadequate,
But open just enough,
to let in a bit of air,
and light.

Not adequate,
painfully inadequate:
the assistance allotted to my elderly parents by "Medicare".
