Betrayal

Popular histories depict betrayal by individuals, but what of the case where a man or woman is betrayed by a country? But what is a country? In the case of the USA, it is a collection of individuals with a fiercely hierarchical and un- democratic structure. While my parents gave of themselves freely when they were young---working tirelessly, today when they have joined the frail elderly they are badly repaid--- paid with inadequate help, and an insulting, demeaning bureaucracy. The USA is neither a land of freedom nor even a land of basic respect.....
