Pious declarations by politicians and so-called medical professionals to the contrary, the USA as a society, doesn't give a damn about the elderly.

All it cares about is how the maximum tribute may be extracted from them---tribute payable primarily to the ruling class.

But to say all that is redundant for two reasons:

First, this is true of all segments of the society: the young, the middle-aged, and anyone in between are merely sources of wealth for the ruling class.

That's the way the society works.

And, finally, the point about the aged was already made more than forty years ago by Simone de Beauvoir....
